With Italians In Mind

Design Story

The journey began with a call to my dear friend Bradley at Autodromo, renowned for his exquisite vintage race-inspired timepieces. Bradley sought a keypiece that would honor the past, complementing the automobiles in his collection: Dino, Fiat, and Alpine — cars that epitomize a bygone era's visceral driving experience.

We knew that texture and warmth, combined with the perfect size, were paramount. Smaller than our usual designs, this piece needed to evoke a sense of nostalgia. Our initial thoughts leaned towards machining cellulose acetate or synthetic blends from Italian eyewear suppliers. However, we ultimately chose precision machining with Ultem, which provided the desired warmth and tactile feel while ensuring stability and reliability across temperature variations.

Throughout the design process, the concept of 'Superleggera' — superlight — remained our guiding principle. This lightweight quality is what made Italian cars of the past so exceptional, offering an unparalleled connection between driver and machine. Our goal was to encapsulate this essence into a pocket-sized sculpture that is both functional and evocative.
